The Difference Between Vision & Medical Insurance

Vision and medical insurance cover different parts of your eye care, and it’s common for patients to have questions about how they work together.

Vision insurance (e.g., VSP, EyeMed) is typically used for routine care, such as annual eye exams, glasses, and contact lenses. These plans are designed to help with vision correction and everyday eyewear needs.

Medical insurance (e.g., BCBS, Medicare), on the other hand, is used when you’re being seen for a specific eye health concern. This can include conditions like diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, eye infections, or sudden changes in vision.

From medical treatments to your annual eye exam, we provide a wide range of services at Alma Optics.

Located in Alma, our office provides community-focused eye care for patients throughout the area.

Vision & Medical Insurance Plans

We accept many vision and medical insurance plans to help make your care more accessible. Our team can review your benefits, explain what’s covered, and guide you through your options.

Out-of-Network Care

If we are not in-network with your plan, you can still receive care with us. In those cases, we’re happy to provide an itemized receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
